On the Move

Wow,
I missed the whole Cary Grant thing. I'm just reading it today, Thrusday.Feb. 9. Obviously, I got lost thinking I had read everything. Another possibility is the drugs during and following the surgery.

So this news will interest you all in terms of finding this exchange. The show Good Morning America is in Chennai and is doing a segment on the Apollo or maybe medical tourism in general. The hospital called me today and asked me to do an interview with these people at the hospital on Monday. At first I said no but have decided to do it if it works out. Sounds like it is a little difficult to predict with certainty when it will happen. Get ready Peter; Mohan is talking about contacting you as well.

I am now in Pondicheery at Coffee.com with there high speed internet and inexpensive ,as well.
Was pretty uneventful journey- just the usual dodging of cows, goats, bicycles, etc. etc. Until we got to Pondicheery and the driver pulls over on one of the main streets, asks the address of the place we are going and disappears down the street for ten minutes. No help. Turns out this is his first time in Pondy,as well. So two more stops and a phone call to the hotel that I had to take because english was the only commmon language we could find . So with some landmarks and my map we set off and Voila! we suceeded.

I have arrived in anew place that was a French territory. I need a french speaker now. This town is much more "normal" or famliar at least. Better organized, better signage and recognizable businesses and homes.
I am staying in a old colonial home with a courtyard. The room has 10-12 foot ceilings, a phone that works and breakfast included.

I hope folks find this post- I will return to the latest catagory and direct you here.

Neil -

I went ahead and created a new post with your comments. Hope you don't mind, that way everyone can see it.

It sounds like quite the adventure. Keep us informed. I'll post the pictures from Mamallapuram later today.

Good Morning America! Only confirms for me that we are at the beginning of a huge new industry. More on that later.

Hey Neil, Sounds like you are managing without Peter there. I bet it was hard to see him go ,for you, too, Peter, that beach looks heavenly!!!! I bet you were glad to get home and see your family, tho'. 36 hours sounds dreadful....Neil your turn here soon, kinda of a shocking way to end such a blissful beach stay. Where is "back to the future" technology? A time machine is much needed for your trip home! Sending you love and light for your continued good health and spirits. Love Lu

Thanks Pete for reposting - I think I would have missed it if it was buried in one of the other sections.

I'm glad you're having an adventure - see now, Mom was right about learning to speak French! ;-)

I'd love to see you on Good Morning America - let us know how it turns out. I'd be a little nervous sitting in a cab when the driver disappears for 10 minutes.

Pete, let us know if you are interviewed also. Medical tourism, blogs and Good Morning America - who would have guessed?

Have a great day everyone!

Ellen

Pretty tired after long, stressful travel day. Definely in the land of the French; croissants for breakfast, lots of french-speaking tourists(maybe students as well).
Alittle exploring today. Went to the Botanical Garden. Is primarily a tree perserve-lots of beautiful old trees. The sign says this is not a natural forest region so is an anomaly for the area; "Only lung space for the entire Pondicherry."
Afternoon coffee and then a walk back to the villa. Really a lovely old house. A bit noisy as is on a busy street. But everything here seems more manageable. Town of 200,000 and I am in a central location not far from the ocean. I have made arrangements for a little tour of the town tomorrow after breakfast. This will include a look at the beach and here is more swimmer friendly.
I bet you can tell that I like this town.Lots of good food and accomadations-more tourist friendly, which I like because I am a tourist now.
Taking pictures for the archives. Probably won't see them till St. Louis but you could probably find some odf the same images on the net.
It is tempting to think about a business venture to service medical tourism. It is clearly picking up momentum and I think there is a niche that would complete the package for the patient from booking to return home. There are some holes in the good service and information the hospital provides. Peter and I have discussed this at some length. As I recover, I am able to generate some enthusiasm for the idea. I know this is an idea that will be lucrative for someone- I'm not sure I want it to be me. I do , however, have some connections with people that do business here so maybe we can do a little research and reach out.
Beatiful, sunny day here and my mood is good.
Hope all is well.

Great stuff, Neil. Once again you've taken me across the waters to a place I've never been (and may never get to). You sound very good. Will you meet Diane Sawyer? I've always had a crush on her--too bad she worked for Nixon! (or was it Reagan?) K
